Surviving the Summer: Seasonal Emergency Medicine

This webinar will cover summer emergencies related to sun, sand and surf with a focus on some of the emergencies seen in dogs who are out and about with their owners at the dog beach or playing on the weekends. Diagnosis and treatment of heat stroke will be discussed in detail. Sand enteritis, an often unrecognized cause of vomiting and shock will be discussed together with treatment recommendations. Recognition of salt or freshwater aspiration from playing in the water will also be covered.
Katrin graduated from Sydney University in 1994 and worked in small animal general practice for a few years before finding her vocation was emergency and critical care. Since 1997 she has worked solely in emergency and referral practices, initially in Sydney and then in Perth. In 2000, she attained ANZCVS Memberships in Emergency and Critical Care. In 2001, she came to Perth to do a residency at Murdoch University and in 2006 she became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. She then became an academic at Murdoch University teaching students and residents until deciding to go back into private practice in 2011.

Katrin is one of the directors of Western Australian Veterinary Emergency and Specialty (WAVES) hospital which opened in 2013 and enjoys full time clinical practice with a large dedicated team of enthusiastic emergency vets and nurses. She is passionate about all aspects of emergency and critical care, with an emphasis on toxicology and snake envenomation in particular.
